The Budget

01 Jun, 2009

Traditionally the costs of a wedding are divided as follows:

THE BRIDE AND FAMILY

·           Bridesmaid’s dresses and accessories

·           Bride’s dress and accessories

·           Hair and make-up

·           Wedding gift for the groom

·           Gifts for the attendants (shared with groom)

·           Groom’s wedding ring

·           Going away outfit

·           Press announcements

·           Invitations

·           The reception (venue, food and entertainment)

·           Transport for the bride, attendants, bride’s mother and groom’s parents

·           Flowers

·           Photographer and videographer

·           Insurance

·           Overnight accommodation for close family

·           Parent’s of the bride’s own outfits

·           Wedding cake

THE GROOM AND FAMILY

·           Registry office / church fees

·           Gifts for attendants (shared with bride)

·           Wedding bouquet

·           Bride’s engagement and wedding ring

·           Honeymoon

·           Button holes for himself and the male attendants

·           His outfit.

However, these days strict etiquette is outdated and unpopular, and often bridal couples pool financial resources when it comes to paying for the wedding of their dreams.

The costs involved in making a traditional wedding are phenomenal, and even though a young girl may have dreamed of the princess she will be on her wedding day, often this is financially unrealistic. It is unwise to start out ones married life in debt simply for the satisfaction of a single day, so make sure you know what your limits are. Often a less expensive untraditional ceremony and celebration can be classy and definitely more memorable.

You can expect to pay for the following:
