Catering

01 Jun, 2009

Whether you choose to self-cater, have a meal catered at a venue, or book a venue which includes catering, there will be several decisions to make.

A venue that includes catering will usually have a choice of menu. Consider the time of year (hot weather you will probably choose more cold dishes), and know if there are any foods that a relative is highly allergic to. However, do not be ruled by the vegetarians, vegans or other special-diet requirements. Ultimately your menu should reflect your tastes, making sure there is enough variety so that those who have special eating requirements will enjoy the meal too.

Having the reception at home involves a lot of planning, and if you are handling the catering as well (self-catering) you will need to have your organizational skills handy. Try to keep the menu simple, and if family and friends are helping make sure they have specific tasks and their roles clearly stipulated. Buffet-style is a lot less work and more relaxed.
