Traditionally the bride’s parents host the engagement party, but this is not a hard and fast rule. The purpose of the engagement party is for the two families to meet and get to know each other better. Depending on budget and personal preference, it can be a small private affair at the bride’s parent’s home, or an intimate dinner for the two families at a favourite restaurant, or it could be a large lavish catered affair at a booked venue. The formalities of this party will include a toast to the couple by the father of the bride, and a response from the groom.
